What to Expect
Choosing the right therapist
Countless studies show that a collaborative relationship between therapist and client characterised by warm acceptance, trust, honest communication and feedback is fundamental to successful therapeutic outcomes.
That is why it’s crucial to select a therapist with whom you resonate and feel a rapport that you can see evolving into a trusting relationship.
To get a sense of whether you feel you’d like to work with me, please do get in touch for a free intitial 15 minute Zoom consultation. This mini-session is an opportunity for you to tell me a bit more about why you are seeking therapy, and ask any questions you might have about the process and my approach.
A Typical Session
A typical session would with me checking in with you to see how you’ve been since our last session, giving you the opportunity to discuss and explore anything that has come up. It can be extremely helpful to talk openly, feel heard, and understood to deepen your self-understanding and process any emotions you might be holding in.
Typically, the rest of the session will be spent in a relaxed state where you focus your attention inwards, and I guide you in exploring emotions, felt sensations and any parts of you that need your attention. On the day, you may wish to work with a recent issue, or focus more on exploring any long-standing goals that brought you to therapy, rest-assured your internal system will let you know what you need when we focus inwards and listen.
How does Hypnotherapy work?
Hypnosis put simply, is the formal use of the natural trance-state we enter into multiple times a day when completely absorbed in thought or an activity e.g. when reading, showering, driving, and daydreaming.
Through Experiential techniques and Hypnosis, I guide you into a relaxed, focused state where your conscious mind quiets, allowing access to the subconscious part of your brain where beliefs, thoughts, emotions, memory and behaviours are held.
In this state, between deep relaxation and sleep, the subconscious becomes more receptive, enabling us to use your imagination to induce deep relaxation, strengthen your resources, explore new ideas, and rewire unhelpful processes, healing younger parts of yourself that hold onto them. Hypnotherapy essentially heals the imagination with the imagination.
During hypnotherapy, you remain in control, able to move and communicate as normal. You will remember the experience, however, you may find changes surprisingly easy to make after the session, as your unconscious mind integrates the suggestions introduced in trance.
How long does Therapy take?
Everyone is as unique as their goals, and so there is no standard time in which results occur. For some issues just a handful of sessions is enough, for others, a more long-term process is required. The important thing is not speed, but meeting the valuable goals you seek at a pace and in the best possible way that fits with who you are.
There is no pressure to invest more time or money than you choose to, this is your process, and the frequency and length of this process is entirely in your control. You are always free to take breaks and come back at a later time too if you choose.
